Welcome to Our Chicken Pages

In 2005, I was homeschooling my daughter, Penny.
We decided to build an incubator and try to hatch some chickens.
Our neighbor was nice enough to give us 2 dozen eggs.
Well only one hatched.

His name was Sam, short for Salmonella, because he was spoiled rotten.

Sam was a BB Red Old English Game Bantam

See pictures below.

Sam was incredibly spoiled rotten.
He spent his first year in the house. He loved to watch TV.
As he got older, he developed an attitude, so he had to go outside.
When we got our second flock, he moved in with them.
At first he was very antisocial.
Every time I went in the pen he scratched on the top of my shoe
which meant he wanted me to pick him up.
If I tried to hold or pet any of the other chickens, he would attack me.

One day I took my camera in there to get some pics.
Sam scratched my shoe and I did not pic him up, but petted him.
Then I stooped down to take a pic and he got mad because I didn't
pick him up. So he went behind me, grabbed my shirt tail
and started pulling on it.
I told him to stop, I would pick him up in a minute.
So he spurred me in the back.
At that point I gave in and picked him up and left the pen.
Once he was sitting on my lap he was fine.
He ate his bread and then fell asleep.
Was that spoiled or what? LOL.
